Welcome to Lake Superior Elementary

Bus and Transportation ProcedureLake_Superior_Elementary_Logo.JPG

Lake Superior Elementary is a safe place and will continue to be a safe place with clear school/parent communication.

Important Note:

  • If your child's transportation is different than their normal routine/transportation please send a note, or call, both are highly encouraged. Without a note or phone call a child will be directed to follow their normal transportation routine.

  • Students will remain in the building and will not be allowed to leave the school until a parent/guardian signs the child out in the main office.

  • The large lot nearest the playground (South) is for bus drop off/pick up and overflow school activities. Please continue to use the smaller lot nearest the main entrance (North) for student drop off/pick up and/or parking.

Looking forward to great school year in working with our families,

Mark and The Lake Superior Staff

Attendance at LSE

Parent/Guardians are asked to call the Main Office prior to 9:25am to report a student’s absence. The number for the Main Office is 715-398-7672 (dial 0 when prompted). When leaving a message, please clearly state the student’s name, grade, reason for the absence, and whom it is leaving the message. Lake Superior Elementary uses the Automated School Messenger calling system to report unverified absences to parents. This automated call goes out to parents between 9:45am and 10:00am to notify you that your child has been marked absent and that you need to call and report the absence. If you are unable to call please send a note with your child the day they return to school.

Absences

In accordance with state law, all children between five and 18 years of age must attend school full time until the end of the school term quarter or semester until they reach 18 years of age, unless they have a legal excuse or have graduated. Wisconsin state law says that children may not exceed 10 excused absences per year. School District of Superior policies states that children may not exceed 5 absences per semester. If you provide a medical excuse from a medical professional it does not count towards the 10 excused absences. Attendance is very important for children to succeed in school. Excessive absences over 10 will result in legal action if a medical excuse is not provided. Violation of this ordinance carries a fine for parents/guardians of $200.50 for the first offense and $263.00 for second and subsequent offenses.

Tardiness

Students are expected to be in their classrooms by 9:00am. Students will be marked Tardy (TD) if they are late for school. Parents/Guardians should always sign a student in at the Main Office if they show up to school after 9:00am. Children who are picked up between 3:00 and 3:30 will be marked Tardy in the pm unless there is a medical excuse. A Tardy is also counted as an absence and follow’s the same rules as stated above for Absences.

Leaving the Building during School Hours

When students need to leave the building during regular school hours for appointments or other reasons, please send a note with child the day of the appointment or call the Main Office 10 minutes prior to the pickup time so we may have your student in the office and ready to go. Again, please make sure to get medical excuses for any appointments your child may attend. Children may only leave the building with those listed on the Emergency Data Form. If you need to make changes to your child’s Emergency Data Form please contact the Main Office at 715-398-7672.

Planned absences (i.e., appointments or family vacations) in advance of absence dates

Please send an explanation of an absence due to appointments or other reasons to the school’s Main Office as early as possible. Make sure the notes states the student’s name, date and time of absence/release, and reason for absence.  If you’re planning a family vacation, notify the teacher and principal as soon as you know your child will be missing two or more days.
